Behind the Headlines

Daniel Andreas Sager.

Germany, 2021. Doc., 88'. OVCS

Two years after uncovering the Panama Papers, the investigative journalists of the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, Bastian Obermayer and Frederik Obermaier, are confronted with the murder of Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and the case of an arms dealer linked to Iran’s nuclear missile program. However, the leak of a video incriminating the Austrian deputy minister HC Strache, opens a new scenario that could bring down a whole government. Through his documentary “Behind the Headlines”, director Daniel Andreas opens for the first time the doors of the famous investigation department of the most important German newspaper in the country. Through a journalistic account and with hints of a thriller, Andreas offers us the opportunity to get to know the steps and work processes of a space that, until now, has been closed to the world.
