To Kill a War Machine

Richard York i Hannan Majid.

UK, 2024. Doc., 78'

An independent and committed documentary that combines footage of Palestine Action’s actions at various sites of the Israeli arms company Elbit Systems, which owns ten factories in the United Kingdom, with statements from some of its members and supporters explaining the reasons for this type of “direct action”. The documentary was completed just one month before Starmer’s government declared Palestine Action a terrorist organization on July 5th of 2025, which sparked large demonstrations in the UK with hundreds of arrests of elderly and peaceful people, who have been summoned to appear before a judge. Given the danger of prosecution for the documentary’s distributors, its producers decided to pull it from circulation in the UK, but they encourage its screening wherever possible.

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

To Kill a War Machine - Still 3_opt

This year we once again celebrate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, but from a different perspective. If last year we focused on the tragedy and suffering of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip and denounced the genocide being inflicted on them by the State of Israel, on this occasion, and in light of the current situation, we want to draw attention to what we can do from here to stop the inhumane massacre.

At a time when international society has begun to mobilize en masse and forced respective governments to start implementing measures, albeit modest ones, to curb the ferocious Israeli attacks, we must analyze the situation to strengthen pressure strategies on our governments. In this regard, the documentary will allow us to discuss the use of legislation to suppress popular protest in the face of economic and political interests (from Palestine Action to the Gag Law) and, consequently, the limits of activism. But we will also analyze the complicity of Western states with Israel, manifested in the lack of strong measures to stop the arms trade, which will allow us to review the Spanish arms industry and, specifically, the sale and supply of military equipment to Israel.
