A compilation of four stories: that of Omaira, a former combatant who has been searching for her father since 2017; that of Daniela, an indigenous woman who spent 20 years searching for her father’s body; Gladys, a mother who is still searching for her son, who disappeared at the hands of paramilitaries in 2002; and Herminia, another mother who, after years of waiting, was finally able to receive and give her son a dignified burial. A journey through thousands of families and communities who, day after day, walk the complex and extensive path of searching for their loved ones in Colombia, hand in hand with the Search Unit for Missing Persons (UBPD). The film tells the story of how the UBPD was created in 2016 with the signing of the Peace Agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP, which arose from the victims’ demand for an entity that would guarantee their rights to search, truth, reparation, and non-repetition. More than five years after its creation, the stories of Omaira, Daniela, Gladys, and Herminia, as well as the work of the UBPD’s territorial teams, bear witness to the difficult path of searching for people reported missing in Colombia as a result of the armed conflict, in all its phases: investigation and information, prospecting and recovery, identification, dignified or culturally appropriate handover, and reunion.
